Cover Story: Seventy-seven olive cultivars were evaluated for their tolerance to the defoliating pathotype of Verticillium dahliae. Self-rooted olive cuttings were inoculated by root-dipping in a V. dahliae conidial suspension and monitored weekly over a ten-week period under controlled growth chamber conditions. The parameters assessed included Relative Area Under the Disease Progress Curve (RAUDPC), Final Mean Severity (FMS), and Percentage of Dead Plants (PDP). Significant variability was observed among cultivars, highlighting 'Ghiacciolo' as the most resilient genotype, whereas 'Carbuncion', 'Giogolino', and 'Pampagliosa' displayed pronounced disease symptoms and higher mortality, surpassing the susceptible reference cultivar 'Picual'. These results provide valuable insights for future studies targeting enhanced Verticillium wilt resistance.
