Cover Story: Fostering optimal acoustical quality in learning spaces is vital, particularly for hearing aid users. Virtual reality (VR) offers a practical solution for assessing perceived room acoustics when in-field evaluations are not feasible. A cost-effective VR system, designed for easy replication in small, non-anechoic spaces, is proposed, consisting of a 16-speaker array synchronized with a VR headset. Validations comparing room acoustics parameters between a real lecture room and its VR reproduction, alongside feedback via the Igroup Presence Questionnaire from subjects experiencing a class through the VR lecture room reproduction, confirm the system’s suitability for predicting perceived acoustical quality, supporting its use in inclusive and efficient design processes. View this paper
