Cover Story: Can an AI debate turn a false causal claim into an apparently evidence-backed conclusion? ClaimArena-LLM investigates this risk through 1460 validated runs on 100 synthetic incident cases, comparing adversarial and all-honest debates. A single adversarial analyst increased false causal attributions in final auditor judgments and weakened the validity of their evidentiary support. The effects varied substantially with model-role configuration, showing that contamination is selective rather than inevitable. The findings highlight why agreement among agents and a final AI auditor cannot be assumed to guarantee trustworthy reasoning. Reliable audits must examine causal correctness, claim propagation, and whether cited evidence actually supports the conclusion. View this paper
