Cover Story: Hybrid AC/DC microgrids interfaced by solid-state transformers (SSTs) must often ride through distribution-grid faults by transitioning to islanded operation. Yet, prolonged outages can deplete local DER and storage, and a faulted MV segment can block the inter-microgrid power exchange needed to balance surplus and demand. In this regard, this paper proposes an SST-enabled emergency power-sharing scheme that activates a common LVDC feeder to bypass the faulted MV section and route power between microgrids, supplying priority loads without oversizing SSTs or adding extra conversion stages. A reduced-scale SST prototype validates stable grid-following and grid-forming operation with accurate regulation and high-power density. View this paper
