In complex detection environments, unknown detection probability and clutter rate hinder accurate tracking of cluster targets. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel multi-sensor adaptive generalized labeled multi-Bernoulli (MS-AGLMB) filter. Specifically, we consider interactions among cluster members and adopt a virtual leader–follower model to describe cluster kinematics. Given unknown environmental parameters, we employ an adaptive cardinalized probability hypothesis density (CPHD) filter to estimate the detection probability and clutter rate in real time. Furthermore, we use Gibbs sampling to efficiently truncate GLMB association hypotheses, obtaining the posterior density and solving the multi-sensor measurement partitioning problem. A joint prediction and update strategy enables simultaneous estimation of target trajectories, detection probability, clutter rate, and cluster structure. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves greater robustness in scenarios with time-varying detection probability and clutter rate, outperforming comparison filters in cluster target tracking. Active sonar tracking of multiple underwater targets is frequently challenged by intense reverberation, which leads to sonar returns that are both non-stationary and non-Gaussian. In such scenarios, the generalized labeled multi-Bernoulli (GLMB) filter, which relies on a Gaussian assumption, often experiences a rise in an Optimal Subpattern Assignment (OSPA) distance, along with recurrent label switching. To mitigate this problem, a robust delta-generalized labeled multi-Bernoulli technique (ST-δ-GLMB) is introduced; it characterizes noise using a Student’s t-distribution and employs variational Bayes to estimate the corresponding parameters. More precisely, the Student’s t-distribution is utilized to represent measurement non-stationarity, and an online variational Bayesian estimation of the noise parameters is conducted within a multi-target framework based on the Student’s t-model. Moreover, without altering the GLMB data-association and label-management machinery, we derive closed-form updates and propagation for the Student’s t-parameters, thereby keeping the recursive computational burden and practical implementability under control. Finally, Monte Carlo simulations and lake-trial data demonstrate that, under non-stationary and heavy-clutter conditions, ST-δ-GLMB maintains stable track continuity and accurate target-number (cardinality) estimates in the presence of non-stationary measurements. Aiming to improve the accuracy of multi-target tracking in multi-sensor scenarios, this paper proposes a centralized multi-sensor (MS) generalized labeled multi-Bernoulli (GLMB) smoother, abbreviated as MS-GLMB-S. The developed smoother is built on the multi-target forward–backward Bayesian smoothing framework, which uses an MS-GLMB filter for forward recursion and is subsequently followed by backward propagation via the multi-sensor backward corrector to obtain the GLMB smoothing density. In the backward smoothing process, expressions for the multi-sensor backward corrector and the multi-target smoothing density are detailed. By deriving the time-decoupled form of the smoothing weight, a suboptimal Gibbs sampling method is introduced to achieve efficient implementation of the proposed smoother, enabling independent sampling across each sensor at different time steps within the lag interval during the backward smoothing process. Additionally, a Gaussian mixture implementation of MS-GLMB-S is formulated. Simulations conducted in both linear and nonlinear scenarios demonstrate the effectiveness and real-time performance of MS-GLMB-S. Full article

In this research, a multi-channel target speech enhancement scheme is proposed that is based on deep learning (DL) architecture and assisted by multi-source tracking using a labeled random finite set (RFS) framework. A neural network based on minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) beamformer is considered as the beamformer of choice, where a residual dense convolutional graph-U-Net is applied in a generative adversarial network (GAN) setting to model the beamformer for target speech enhancement under reverberant conditions involving multiple moving speech sources. The input dataset for this neural architecture is constructed by applying multi-source tracking using multi-sensor generalized labeled multi-Bernoulli (MS-GLMB) filtering, which belongs to the labeled RFS framework, to obtain estimations of the sources’ positions and the associated labels (corresponding to each source) at each time frame with high accuracy under the effect of undesirable factors like reverberation and background noise. The tracked sources’ positions and associated labels help to correctly discriminate the target source from the interferers across all time frames and generate time–frequency (T-F) masks corresponding to the target source from the output of a time-varying, minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) beamformer. These T-F masks constitute the target label set used to train the proposed deep neural architecture to perform target speech enhancement. The exploitation of MS-GLMB filtering and a time-varying MVDR beamformer help in providing the spatial information of the sources, in addition to the spectral information, within the neural speech enhancement framework during the training phase. Moreover, the application of the GAN framework takes advantage of adversarial optimization as an alternative to maximum likelihood (ML)-based frameworks, which further boosts the performance of target speech enhancement under reverberant conditions. The computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed approach leads to better target speech enhancement performance compared with existing state-of-the-art DL-based methodologies which do not incorporate the labeled RFS-based approach, something which is evident from the 75% ESTOI and PESQ of 2.70 achieved by the proposed approach as compared with the 46.74% ESTOI and PESQ of 1.84 achieved by Mask-MVDR with self-attention mechanism at a reverberation time (RT60) of 550 ms. This paper discusses a key technique for passive localization and tracking of radiation sources, which obtains the motion trajectory of radiation sources carried by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by continuously or periodically localizing it without the active participation of the radiation sources. However, the existing methods have some limitations in complex signal environments and non-stationary wireless propagation that impact the accuracy of localization and tracking. To address these challenges, this paper extends the δ-generalized labeled multi-Bernoulli (GLMB) filter to the scenario of passive localization and tracking based on the random finite-set (RFS) framework and provides the extended Kalman filter (EKF) and unscented Kalman filter (UKF) implementations of the δ-GLMB filter, which fully take into account the nonlinear motion of the radiation source. By modeling the “obstacle scenario” and the influence of external factors (e.g., weather, terrain), our proposed GLMB filter can accurately track the target and capture its motion trajectory. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the GLMB filter in target identification and state tracking. Full article

The previous multi-frame version of the generalized labeled multi-Bernoulli model (MF-GLMB) only accounts for standard measurement models. It is not suitable for application in the detection and tracking of multiple weak targets (low signal-to-noise ratio) due to the measurement information loss. In this paper, we introduce a MF-GLMB model that formally incorporates a track-before-detect scheme for point targets using an image sensor model. Furthermore, a belief propagation algorithm is adopted to approximately calculate the marginal association probabilities of the multi-target posterior density. In this formulation, an MF-GLMB model based on the track-before-detect measurement model (MF-GLMB-TBD smoothing) enables multi-target posterior recursion for multi-target state estimation. By taking the entire history of the state estimation into account, MF-GLMB-TBD smoothing achieves superior performance in estimation precision compared with the corresponding GLMB-TBD filter. The simulation results demonstrate that the performance of the proposed algorithm is comparable to or better than that of the Gibbs sampler-based version. Full article

In this paper, we propose the specific recursion formula for the generalized labeled multi-Bernoulli filter based on the track-before-detect strategy (GLMB-TBD) using a belief propagation algorithm. The proposed method aims to track multiple weak targets with superior performance. Compared to the Murty algorithm-based and Gibbs sampling-based implementation of GLMB-TBD filter, the proposed algorithm improves the tracking accuracy of multiple weak targets without pruning operation to preserve the relevant association information. The superior performance in tracking accuracy of the algorithm is validated for simulated scenarios using OSPA(2) metric. More importantly, the simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outputs both the Gibbs sampling-based version and Murty algorithm-based version in computational cost due to linear complex in the number of both Bernoulli components and measurements. In the field of resolvable group target tracking, further study on the structure and formation of group targets is helpful to reduce the tracking error of group bluetargets. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to detect whether the structure or formation state of group targets changes. In this paper, a Gibbs Generalized Labeled Multi-Bernoulli (GLMB) filter is used to obtain the estimation of discernible group target bluestates. After obtaining the state estimation of the group target, we extract relevant information based on the estimation data to judge whether the structure or formation state has changed. One of the core challenges in visual multi-target tracking is occlusion. This is especially important in applications such as video surveillance and sports analytics. While offline batch processing algorithms can utilise future measurements to handle occlusion effectively, online algorithms have to rely on current and past measurements only. As such, it is markedly more challenging to handle occlusion in online applications. To address this problem, we propagate information over time in a way that it generates a sense of déjà vu when similar visual and motion features are observed. To achieve this, we extend the Generalized Labeled Multi-Bernoulli (GLMB) filter, originally designed for tracking point-sized targets, to be used in visual multi-target tracking. The proposed algorithm includes a novel false alarm detection/removal and label recovery methods capable of reliably recovering tracks that are even lost for a substantial period of time. We compare the performance of the proposed method with the state-of-the-art methods in challenging datasets using standard visual tracking metrics. Our comparisons show that the proposed method performs favourably compared to the state-of-the-art methods, particularly in terms of ID switches and fragmentation metrics which signifies occlusion. This paper deals with mobile multi-target detection and tracking. In the traditional method, there are uncertainties such as misdetection and false alarm in the measurement data, and it will be inevitable having to deal with the data association. To solve the target trajectory and state estimation problem under a cluttered environment, this paper proposes a non-concurrent multi-target acoustic localization tracking method based on the Gibbs-generalized labelled multi-Bernoulli (Gibbs-GLMB) filter and considers an acoustic array of a fixed arrangement for the tracking of targets by joint time difference of arrival (TDOA) and angle of arrival (AOA) measurements. Firstly, the TDOAs are calculated by using the generalized cross-correlation algorithm (GCC) and the AOAs are derived from the received signal directions. Secondly, we assume the independence of the targets and fuse the measurements which are used to track the multiple targets via the Gibbs-GLMB filter. Finally, the effectiveness of the method is verified by Monte Carlo simulation experiments. Full article

In this paper, we introduce a tracking algorithm based on labeled Random Finite Sets (RFS) and Rauch–Tung–Striebel (RTS) smoother via a Generalized Labeled Multi-Bernoulli (GLMB) multi-scan estimator to track multiple objects in a wide range of tracking scenarios. In the forward filtering stage, we use the GLMB filter to generate a set of labels and the association history between labels and the measurements. In the trajectory-estimating stage, we apply a track management strategy to eliminate tracks with short lifespan compared to a threshold value. Subsequently, we apply the information of trajectories captured from the forward GLMB filtering stage to carry out standard forward filtering and RTS backward smoothing on each estimated trajectory. For the experiment, we implement the tracker with standard GLMB filter, the hybrid track-before-detect (TBD) GLMB filter, and the GLMB filter with objects spawning. The results show improvements in tracking performance for all implemented trackers given negligible extra computational effort compared to standard GLMB filters. Full article

The finite-set statistics (FISST) foundational approach to multitarget tracking and information fusion has inspired work by dozens of research groups in at least 20 nations; and FISST publications have been cited tens of thousands of times. This review paper addresses a recent and cutting-edge aspect of this research: exact closed-form—and, therefore, provably Bayes-optimal—approximations of the multitarget Bayes filter. The five proposed such filters—generalized labeled multi-Bernoulli (GLMB), labeled multi-Bernoulli mixture (LMBM), and three Poisson multi-Bernoulli mixture (PMBM) filter variants—are assessed in depth. This assessment includes a theoretically rigorous, but intuitive, statistical theory of “undetected targets”, and concrete formulas for the posterior undetected-target densities for the “standard” multitarget measurement model. Under realistic environmental conditions, heuristic-based data association and map management routines often result in divergent map and trajectory estimates in robotic Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (SLAM). To address these issues, SLAM solutions have been proposed based on the Random Finite Set (RFS) framework, which models the map and measurements such that the usual requirements of external data association routines and map management heuristics can be circumvented and realistic sensor detection uncertainty can be taken into account. Rao–Blackwellized particle filter (RBPF)-based RFS SLAM solutions have been demonstrated using the Probability Hypothesis Density (PHD) filter and subsequently the Labeled Multi-Bernoulli (LMB) filter. In multi-target tracking, the LMB filter, which was introduced as an efficient approximation to the computationally expensive δ -Generalized LMB ( δ -GLMB) filter, converts its representation of an LMB distribution to δ -GLMB form during the measurement update step. This not only results in a loss of information yielding inferior results (compared to the δ -GLMB filter) but also fails to take computational advantages in parallelized implementations possible with RBPF-based SLAM algorithms. Similar to state-of-the-art random vector-valued RBPF solutions such as FastSLAM and MH-FastSLAM, the performances of all RBPF-based SLAM algorithms based on the RFS framework also diverge from ground truth over time due to random sampling approaches, which only rely on control noise variance. Further, the methods lose particle diversity and diverge over time as a result of particle degeneracy. To alleviate this problem and further improve the quality of map estimates, a SLAM solution using an optimal kernel-based particle filter combined with an efficient variant of the δ -GLMB filter ( δ -GLMB-SLAM) is presented. The performance of the proposed δ -GLMB-SLAM algorithm, referred to as δ -GLMB-SLAM2.0, was demonstrated using simulated datasets and a section of the publicly available KITTI dataset. The results suggest that even with a limited number of particles, δ -GLMB-SLAM2.0 outperforms state-of-the-art RBPF-based RFS SLAM algorithms. Full article

The joint detection and tracking of multiple targets from raw thermal infrared (TIR) image observations plays a significant role in the video surveillance field, and it has extensive applied foreground and practical value. In this paper, a novel multiple-target track-before-detect (TBD) method, which is based on background subtraction within the framework of labeled random finite sets (RFS) is presented. First, a background subtraction method based on a random selection strategy is exploited to obtain the foreground probability map from a TIR sequence. Second, in the foreground probability map, the probability of each pixel belonging to a target is calculated by non-overlapping multi-target likelihood. Finally, a δ generalized labeled multi-Bernoulli ( δ -GLMB) filter is employed to produce the states of multi-target along with their labels. Unlike other RFS-based filters, the proposed approach describes the target state by a pixel set instead of a single point. To meet the requirement of factual application, some extra procedures, including pixel sampling and update, target merging and splitting, and new birth target initialization, are incorporated into the algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed method performs better in multi-target detection than six compared methods. Also, the method is effective for the continuous tracking of multi-targets. The amplitude information (AI) of echoed signals plays an important role in radar target detection and tracking. A lot of research shows that the introduction of AI enables the tracking algorithm to distinguish targets from clutter better and then improves the performance of data association. The current AI-aided tracking algorithms only consider the signal amplitude in the range-azimuth cell where measurement exists. However, since radar echoes always contain backscattered signals from multiple cells, the useful information of neighboring cells would be lost if directly applying those existing methods. In order to solve this issue, a new δ-generalized labeled multi-Bernoulli (δ-GLMB) filter is proposed. It exploits the AI of radar echoes from neighboring cells to construct a united amplitude likelihood ratio, and then plugs it into the update process and the measurement-track assignment cost matrix of the δ-GLMB filter. Simulation results show that the proposed approach has better performance in target’s state and number estimation than that of the δ-GLMB only using single-cell AI in low signal-to-clutter-ratio (SCR) environment.
