World Kidney Day—“Kidney Health for All: Caring for People, Protecting the Planet”, 12 March 2026
12 March marks World Kidney Day 2026, a global observance dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of kidney health and advocating for the prevention, early detection, and equitable management of kidney diseases across the world. The theme for World Kidney Day 2026, “Kidney Health for All: Caring for People, Protecting the Planet”, underscores the inseparable link between human well-being, kidney health, and planetary sustainability.
Kidneys are vital organs that filter waste and excess fluids, regulate blood pressure, maintain fluid and electrolyte balance, and support overall physiological stability—functions essential for healthy living, disease prevention, and resilient healthcare systems. However, environmental changes, pollution, climate-related risks, and unequal access to care are driving the global burden of kidney disease, with profound impacts on individuals, communities, and public health.
As kidney disorders become more prevalent and underdiagnosed, the world faces growing risks of chronic illness, strained healthcare systems, and widening health inequalities. Promoting kidney health and building people-centered, eco-friendly care models is not only a medical imperative but also a commitment to a sustainable and equitable future for all.
Echoing the mission of advancing kidney health for current and future generations, MDPI’s established journals in the medical and health sciences serve as leading platforms for global scientific exchange. By publishing cutting-edge research, clinical innovations, and sustainable healthcare solutions, MDPI supports worldwide efforts to address kidney diseases and protect the intersection of human health and planetary health.
Join us in celebrating World Kidney Day 2026 and championing initiatives that prioritize kidney health, early screening, equitable care, and environmental stewardship. Together, we can build a future where kidney health is accessible to all, people thrive, and the planet remains protected for generations to come.
