Dear Colleagues,
The first edition of this Special Issue, entitled “Bioenergy, Green Chemistry and Biorefinery: Challenges and Perspectives on Circular Economy and Sustainability”, collected ten papers that attracted more than 14000+ views. Due to the considerable interest in this topic, we propose a second edition of this Special Issue, entitled “Bioenergy, Green Chemistry and Biorefinery: Challenges and Perspectives on Circular Economy and Sustainability, 2nd Edition".
The transition to a sustainable and circular economy is a global phenomenon driven by climate change mitigation, resource efficiency, and the need for resilient industrial systems. Bioenergy, green chemistry, and biorefinery are central to this, offering ways to use renewable materials, reduce greenhouse gases, and replace fossil-based products with bio-based alternatives. These fields are increasingly interconnected, with advances in one catalyzing progress in others. Maintaining current sustainable growth requires new biofuels, biosolutions, and biomaterials. Promising areas include smart biorefineries, green catalysis, enzyme engineering, digital twins, life cycle assessments (LCA), LCA with techno-economic analysis (TEA), autonomous biorefineries combining digital twins and synthetic biology, and carbon-based materials. Therefore, for this 2nd edition of the Special Issue, we seek papers on new trends and processes in biofuels, biosolutions, and biomaterials. Topics include but are not limited to:

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
