Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Photovoltaic (PV) technology has emerged as a key renewable energy technology for meeting the growing global demand for clean, sustainable, and reliable electricity. Continuous developments in photovoltaic materials, cell architectures, modules, power conversion technologies, and system integration have contributed to significant improvements in PV efficiency, reliability, and economic viability. Meanwhile, the increasing deployment of PV systems has introduced new challenges related to intermittent power generation, system performance, energy management, grid integration, power quality, and long-term reliability. Addressing these challenges requires continued research into advanced technologies, methodologies, and applications for photovoltaic power generation.
In parallel with technological developments, the integration of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, advanced monitoring and control, and energy storage is creating new opportunities for improving the operation and flexibility of PV systems. Photovoltaic technologies are also expanding into diverse applications, including utility-scale power plants, buildings, agriculture, transportation, industrial facilities, microgrids, and other emerging energy systems. Therefore, interdisciplinary research covering the development, modeling, operation, optimization, integration, and application of photovoltaic technologies is of significant interest to both researchers and practitioners.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate recent advances in photovoltaic technologies, with particular emphasis on power generation, system performance, optimization, integration, and emerging applications. We invite original research articles, review articles, and other relevant contributions addressing theoretical, experimental, numerical, and field-based developments in photovoltaic systems.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Advanced photovoltaic cells, materials, modules, and technologies;
- Modeling, simulation, and performance analysis of PV systems;
- PV power generation, forecasting, optimization, and energy management;
- Maximum power point tracking, power electronics, and control strategies;
- PV system monitoring, fault detection, diagnosis, and reliability;
- PV degradation, soiling, thermal effects, and performance enhancement;
- Integration of PV systems with energy storage and hybrid renewable energy systems;
- Grid-connected, off-grid, and microgrid-based PV systems;
- Building-integrated, agrivoltaic, floating, and other emerging PV applications;
- Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven approaches for PV systems;
- Techno-economic, environmental, and life-cycle assessment of PV technologies;
- Innovative applications and future developments in photovoltaic power generation.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
