Integrated Processes for Pollution Control and Advanced Wastewater Treatment
This special issue belongs to the section “Environmental and Green Processes“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Population growth, urbanization, and industrial expansion continue to place unprecedented pressure on freshwater resources, wastewater systems, and environmental quality worldwide. There is an urgent need for sustainable, efficient, and innovative treatment solutions to address emerging challenges, including pollutant diversity, resource scarcity, stricter discharge standards, and the demand for energy-efficient, low-carbon processes. Advances in environmental process engineering, material science, process integration and modeling, and resource recovery technologies offer promising pathways to meet these challenges.
This Special Issue aims to bring together high-quality original research and review articles that explore cutting-edge developments in pollution control and wastewater treatment, from novel treatment technologies to process optimization, resource recovery, and integrated system design.
We invite submissions focusing on—but not limited to—the following areas:
- Innovative physical, chemical, and biological wastewater treatment processes;
- Treatment of industrial and municipal wastewater with emerging contaminants;
- Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs), membrane processes, and hybrid systems;
- Nutrient removal, resource recovery (e.g., water, energy, nutrients), circular economy approaches;
- Process modeling, simulation, optimization, digitalization, and process control in wastewater treatment;
- Energy-efficient and low-carbon treatment systems; life-cycle assessment and environmental footprint reduction;
- Process integration for wastewater treatment and pollution control;
- Industrial wastewater treatment, pollution prevention, and waste minimization strategies;
- Wastewater sludge management and its integration into water treatment processes.
Suitable types of contributions include original research papers, review articles, technical notes, and application-oriented case studies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
