Applications of Electrochemical Technology in Wastewater Treatment and Seawater Desalination

This special issue belongs to the section “Environmental and Green Processes“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The water crisis is a global problem that, if not resolved in time, can have far-reaching effects on the survival of human civilization. Increasing industrial activities contribute to the pollution of rivers, seas, and lakes, resulting in a decline in available drinking water. In response, extensive efforts are underway to enhance wastewater treatment technologies and implement seawater desalination, aiming to protect surface water quality and create new sources of drinking water. Electrochemical technologies are attracting increasing interest due to their straightforward operation with simple and easy-to-use equipment. Compared to traditional methods, they are preferred for their high pollutant removal efficiency and environmental friendliness. With advancements in electrode materials and reaction systems, electrochemical technologies have evolved to the point where they are not only cost-competitive with other methods but also offer superior efficiency and compactness. Innovations in electrochemical technologies are of fundamental and practical interest, reflecting their wide applications and the need to understand their mechanisms and environmental impact. In certain applications, such as wastewater treatment and seawater desalination, these technologies may become an essential component, providing critical capabilities that other methods cannot match.

This Special Issue on "Applications of Electrochemical Technology in Wastewater Treatment and Seawater Desalination" aims to present the latest advancements in electrochemical technologies for wastewater treatment and seawater desalination through high-quality papers. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Development and application of new electrode materials/electrocatalysts;
  • Electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs);
  • Construction, testing, and optimization of new reaction systems;
  • Mechanism and kinetic studies;
  • Toxicological studies.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
