Advances in Resource Utilization of Agro-Industrial By-Products and Wastes for Sustainable Enzyme Production

Dear Colleagues,

Agro-industrial activities generate large volumes of by-products and wastes that remain underutilized despite their significant potential as low-cost and renewable substrates for bioprocesses. This Special Issue, titled “Advances in Resource Utilization of Agro-Industrial By-Products and Wastes for Sustainable Enzyme Production”, aims to present recent developments in the valorization of these materials for the production of industrially relevant enzymes.

We welcome original research articles, reviews, and perspectives addressing innovative fermentation strategies, substrate pretreatment, microbial and enzymatic technologies, process optimization, downstream processing, scale-up, and techno-economic or environmental assessments. Contributions integrating enzyme production into biorefinery and circular bioeconomy concepts are strongly encouraged. This collection seeks to advance sustainable waste-to-value approaches that reduce production costs, improve resource efficiency, and minimize the environmental impacts of agro-industrial activities.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
