Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
With the escalating global issues of plastic pollution and resource scarcity, the unsustainability and environmental hazards of traditional petroleum-based plastic packaging materials have become increasingly evident, driving an urgent demand for biodegradable and renewable packaging alternatives. Biomass polymer packaging materials have emerged as a key solution to these challenges due to their environmental friendliness, superior performance, and diverse application potential. This Special Issue aims to compile the latest research achievements, technological innovations, and practical applications in the field of biomass polymer packaging materials, covering topics such as the design, fabrication, performance optimization, and sustainable utilization of biomass polymer packaging materials. By providing a platform for academia, industry, and policymakers to exchange ideas, this Issue seeks to advance the innovation and development of biomass polymer packaging materials, offering scientific and technological solutions for the green transformation of the packaging industry and contributing to the realization of low-carbon economic goals and sustainable development.
The list of Topics to be covered (but not limited to) are as follows:
- Classification and Design of Biomass Polymers: Covers natural and synthetic biomass polymers, composites, and nanocomposites for packaging.
- Advanced Fabrication and Characterization Techniques: Focuses on extraction, modification, and advanced characterization techniques for biomass polymers.
- Performance Optimization and Functional Enhancement: Enhances mechanical, functional (e.g., barrier, antimicrobial), and environmental properties of biomass packaging.
- Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Packaging Solutions: Explores biodegradability, life cycle assessment (LCA), and green processes for eco-friendly packaging.
- Smart and Interactive Biomass Packaging: Integrates smart labels, sensors, and stimuli-responsive materials into biomass packaging.
- Emerging Research and Interdisciplinary Approaches: Explores recycling, waste utilization, nanotechnology, and digital tech for smart packaging.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
