Exogenous Application of Bioactive Compounds for Enhancing Crop Quality and Stress Tolerance
This special issue belongs to the section "Plant Response to Abiotic Stress and Climate Change".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Plants are often exposed to environmental stresses that can reduce their growth, yield, and crop quality. Climate change and increasing environmental challenges have made it important to find practical and sustainable approaches to improve plant tolerance to stress. The exogenous application of bioactive compounds and biostimulatory treatments can be an effective way to boost plant growth, quality, and stress tolerance.
This Special Issue focuses on the use of bioactive compounds and related treatments to improve crop quality and plant tolerance to environmental stresses. It also aims to provide a better understanding of the physiological, biochemical, and molecular responses of plants to these treatments.
The Special Issue welcomes studies on different bioactive compounds and biostimulatory agents, such as plant growth regulators, amino acids, antioxidants, signaling molecules, natural and plant-derived compounds, and microbial-derived metabolites. Emerging approaches, including nanoparticle-based treatments and the use of nanotechnology to improve the delivery or effectiveness of bioactive compounds, are also of interest. Studies related to drought, salinity, heat, cold, nutrient imbalance, oxidative stress, and other environmental stresses are particularly welcome.
Studies on the effects of these treatments on crop quality are also encouraged. This may include nutritional quality, antioxidant activity, primary and secondary metabolites, fruit and vegetable quality, yield, and postharvest performance. Research conducted under laboratory, greenhouse, and field conditions, as well as studies using physiological, biochemical, molecular, and omics approaches, are welcome.
We invite original research articles and review papers that provide new information on the use of bioactive compounds and related approaches to improve crop quality, plant stress tolerance, and sustainable crop production.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
