Drug Repurposing and Delivery Systems for Immunotherapy

Drug repurposing is an effective strategy to identify new pharmacological/therapeutic indication for already existing drugs. This strategy has many advantages as it is highly efficient, time-saving, low-cost, and holds a minimum risk of failure since repurposed drug has already been considered safe. Usually, repurposing can be achieved serendipitously or hypothesis-driven through rational approaches as experimental and/or computational strategies.

Immunotherapy can treat diseases through activation and suppression of the immune system. The use of immunotherapy has gained attention, especially in areas as cancer, infectious diseases, as well as allergenic and autoimmune diseases. Nevertheless, the clinical applications of immunotherapy faces several challenges associated with safety and efficacy. Therefore, novel delivery strategies of immunotherapy are required to improve these parameters.

This Special Issue “Drug Repurposing and Delivery Systems for Immunotherapy” addresses this multidisciplinary fields and focus on the following topics:

• Studies of repurposed drugs for cancer and infections diseases, specially those with potential to enhance immune system;
• Novel delivery systems for immunotherapy that improve efficacy and reduce side-effects.

Original research papers, communications, and reviews articles are welcome for this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
