Molecular and Multiscale Design of Nanocarriers for Controlled and Targeted Drug Delivery

Dear Colleagues,
Nanocarrier-based drug delivery systems offer unique opportunities to improve therapeutic efficacy by controlling the release, biodistribution, and interaction of active compounds with biological targets. However, their successful development requires a detailed understanding of how composition, size, morphology, surface chemistry, and molecular interactions determine drug loading, stability, release kinetics, targeting efficiency, and biological fate.
This Special Issue aims to highlight molecular, mechanistic, and multiscale strategies for the rational design of nanocarriers for controlled and targeted drug delivery. Particular emphasis will be placed on approaches that connect physicochemical and molecular-level properties of nanocarriers with their pharmaceutical performance, integrating predictive modelling with experimental characterization and validation.
We welcome original research articles and reviews covering the design, synthesis, characterization, modelling, and biological evaluation of nanocarrier-based delivery systems. Topics of interest include polymeric and lipid nanoparticles, dendrimers, micelles and other self-assembled nanostructures; active and passive targeting; stimuli-responsive and controlled-release systems; delivery of small molecules, peptides, proteins, and nucleic acids; molecular and multiscale modelling of nanocarrier–drug and nanocarrier–biomembrane interactions; structure–property relationships; in vitro and in vivo characterization; biocompatibility, stability, biodistribution, and translational challenges. Contributions integrating computational and experimental approaches are particularly encouraged.
