Dear Colleagues,

Protein-based nanoparticles have garnered significant attention as innovative platforms for drug delivery, leveraging the natural biocompatibility and versatility of proteins. These nanoparticles offer a range of benefits, including controlled drug release, targeted delivery, simple methods, and reduced toxicity, making them an ideal technology for the advancement of therapeutic strategies.

The interaction of proteins with nanoparticles, particularly the formation of protein coronas, plays a crucial role in determining the biological behaviours and efficacy of these nanocarriers. Understanding these interactions is essential for optimizing drug delivery systems, as the protein corona can influence cellular uptake, biodistribution, and the immune response.

This Special Issue aims to explore the latest research and developments in protein-based nanoparticles and provide valuable insights into the potential ability of protein-based nanoparticles to transform drug delivery and enhance therapeutic outcomes. The scope of this Special Issue includes the design and synthesis of protein nanoparticles, their interactions with biological systems, and the impact of protein coronas on the performance of drug delivery. Any manuscripts focused on the novel protein-based nanoparticles aforementioned are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Pharmaceutics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
