Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Chronic diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular conditions, and chronic inflammatory syndromes represent a growing global health challenge, demanding the continuous refinement of therapeutic approaches. Recent advances in pharmaceutical sciences have opened up new avenues to address these conditions more effectively, not only through the development of innovative therapeutic compounds and delivery technologies but also by rethinking and expanding the applications of established compounds. Reformulation, targeted delivery, and strategic combination therapies are increasingly recognized for their potential to enhance efficacy, reduce toxicity, and improve patient adherence. This evolving landscape underscores the importance of integrating pharmacological innovation with translational insights to optimize treatment outcomes for chronic illnesses.

This Special Issue aims to highlight therapeutic innovations in the management of chronic diseases, focusing both on (i) the development of novel therapeutic agents and formulations and (ii) the strategic repurposing, reformulation, or combination of existing compounds to optimize clinical outcomes. Particular emphasis will be placed on approaches that improve drug bioavailability, target selectivity, and reductions in adverse effects, including drug delivery systems and combination therapies. Submissions exploring translational research, therapeutic target discovery, preclinical evaluations, and drug delivery strategies tailored to chronic pathologies are especially welcome. We invite the submission of original research and review articles that contribute to advancing our understanding and application of therapeutic compounds, whether novel or repurposed, for chronic disease treatment. Insights into mechanistic actions, pharmacokinetics, and formulation science will be key to this discussion.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Pharmaceutics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
