Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Natural extracts have long represented the foundation of traditional medicine systems worldwide and continue to play a vital role in modern drug discovery. Recent progress in phytochemistry, molecular biology, and biotechnology has advanced research into bioactive compounds from plants, fungi, and other natural sources, emphasizing their pharmacological potential and therapeutic value. This Special Issue aims to examine the pharmacological mechanisms and therapeutic applications of natural extracts, as well as innovations in their formulations. It seeks to gather multidisciplinary perspectives from medicinal chemistry, molecular biology, and clinical pharmacology, with the objective of improving our understanding of how natural products can be effectively utilized in modern healthcare. We welcome innovative research focused on structure–activity relationships; mechanisms of pharmacological action; and strategies to enhance the stability, solubility, or bioavailability of natural compounds. We especially encourage the submission of studies utilizing emerging technologies such as omics-based analysis, nanocarrier systems, or eco-friendly extraction methods.

We invite authors to submit original research articles, systematic reviews, and short communications that provide new insights into the pharmacological effects, therapeutic applications, or clinical relevance of natural extracts. Submissions may include studies on isolated compounds, standardized mixtures, or complex formulations derived from natural sources, with methods ranging from in vitro assays to preclinical models or clinical evaluations. Interdisciplinary and translational research, bridging areas such as molecular biology, biotechnology, and clinical pharmacology, is particularly welcome, as it provides a deeper understanding of how natural products can be integrated into modern therapeutic strategies.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Pharmaceuticals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
