Micro and Nanocarrier-Based Delivery Systems for Active Compounds

Dear Colleagues,

Drug delivery systems based on micro- and nanocarriers have emerged as promising strategies to improve the stability, bioavailability, and therapeutic efficacy of active compounds in the pharmaceutical field. These systems allow for the protection and delivery of bioactive molecules, potentially reducing adverse events and modulating the drug release profile. Furthermore, they can increase the solubility and bioavailability of poorly soluble compounds, as well as promote greater permeability through different biological barriers. This special edition aims to bring together original studies and reviews related to the development, characterization, and application of micro- and nanostructured systems for the delivery of active compounds. Studies involving polymeric and lipid nanoparticles, hybrid systems, liposomes, nanoemulsions, micro- and nanogels, micelles, microcapsules, microparticles, and other innovative controlled-release approaches are welcome. It is expected that this special edition will contribute to expanding scientific knowledge and promoting new translational perspectives in the area of drug delivery and advanced pharmaceutical formulations.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
