Dear Colleagues,
The growing demand for sustainable technologies and circular economy solutions has intensified interest in carbon materials derived from renewable biomass resources. Biomass conversion processes such as pyrolysis and gasification enable the production of a wide range of carbonaceous materials, including biochar, activated carbons and functionalized carbon-based composites with tailored physicochemical properties. These materials have attracted significant attention due to their versatility and potential applications in adsorption, catalysis, energy production and environmental remediation.
Recent advances in catalyst synthesis, surface modification and materials characterization have expanded the performance and applicability of biomass-derived carbon materials for the removal of emerging contaminants, wastewater treatment, carbon capture and catalytic processes. At the same time, the valorization of agricultural, forestry and industrial residues into high-value carbon materials contributes to waste minimization and sustainable resource management.
This Special Issue aims to gather original research articles, reviews and communications addressing the preparation, characterization, modification and application of biomass-derived carbon materials. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, pyrolysis and gasification processes, biomass conversion technologies, biochar applications, adsorbent materials, catalyst development, energy-related applications and environmental remediation strategies.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
