Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Thermoelectricity has come into being for more than two centuries and has shown a rapid development trend in recent decades. However, there are still numerous challenges in transforming laboratory research results into practical and scalable technologies. The key challenges include: achieving a high thermoelectric figure of merit, reducing the cost of thermoelectric devices, seamlessly integrating with other equipment, ensuring the long-term stability of thermoelectric materials and devices under both conventional and extreme conditions, and how to effectively integrate thermoelectricity with other renewable energy sources such as photothermal and photovoltaic energy and achieve large-scale application.

This Special Issue aims to highlight the cutting-edge research in addressing these pressing challenges. We welcome submissions covering the design of novel thermoelectric (composite) materials, wearable thermoelectric devices and new applications of thermoelectric technology, with a particular focus on research that clarifies the interaction between material structure and device performance, as well as strategies for improving the thermoelectric performance of materials, developing new thin film- and fiber-based thermoelectric devices, and expanding the application of thermoelectric technology in power generation, sensing and cooling. The insightful views gathered in this Special Issue will help transform the promising thermoelectricity into feasible technical routes, contributing to the construction of a path to futuristic sustainable energy development.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • [Topic 1] Novel thermoelectric materials, including the synthesis of organic, inorganic and composite thermoelectric materials.
  • [Topic 2] Wearable thermoelectric devices, including film based thermoelectric devices, fiber-based thermoelectric devices and other types. Please note that manuscripts focusing solely on the device are outside the scope of this Special Issue.
  • [Topic 3] Novel applications of thermoelectric technology, such as power generation, sensing and solid-state cooling, etc.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
