Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The "Mpemba effect" is usually formulated as "hot water may freeze faster than cold water;" in its modern, more general form, which includes effects found in various objects, including quantum ones, it reads as "the state that is initially farthest from its equilibrium state attains the latter at the earliest time".

The paradoxical Mpemba effect, which seemingly violates the laws of chemistry and physics, has been—for half a century—the subject of sporadic academic debate in leading scientific journals, including Nature, PNAS, Physical Review, The Journal of Physical Chemistry, and now Science.

We believe the time has come to compile a Special Issue of Molecules on this topic. The title of this Special Issue is "The Mpemba Effect: Experiment & Theory".

We invite colleagues whose work is devoted to investigating the paradoxical Mpemba effects both in classical and quantum realms to participate in this Special Issue. We seek original research articles and reviews that describe advances in studies of these effects, as well as articles and reviews devoted to applications of classical and quantum Mpemba effects.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
