Dear Colleagues,
Composite materials and structures offer multiple benefits for structural engineering. Nowadays, the use of environmentally friendly solutions in civil engineering is vitally important. For this reason, new solutions addressing the reduction in CO2 emissions, demountability and modularity are being developed. The use of composite timber, such as laminated veneer lumber, cross-laminated timber and glued laminated timber, is increasing in structures due to its enhanced strength and the absence of the size limitations typical of sawn timber. Composite structures with engineered wood products represent sustainable alternatives to steel–concrete composite structures. New solutions require a substantial number of studies to eliminated all research gaps.
This Special Issue focuses on the structural behaviour of composite materials and structures. Our goal is to present the results of experimental tests and numerical analyses, and address current innovations in these materials and elements.
Topics related to composite materials and structures include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Experimental identification of composite material parameters;
- Structural behaviour of steel–timber, aluminium–timber and timber–timber composite structures;
- Shear connections in composite beams;
- Vibration behaviour of composite beams;
- Experimental and numerical investigations of composite structures;
- Thin-walled elements in composite structures;
- Theoretical, experimental, and numerical analyses of sandwich panels.

Manuscript Submission Information

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
