Dear Colleagues,
The interaction between engineered nanomaterials and plant systems has become an increasingly dynamic and interdisciplinary research area. Over the past decade, significant progress has been made in understanding nanoparticle uptake, translocation, stress responses, redox modulation, gene expression changes, and metabolomic reprogramming in plants. However, many published studies were conducted under heterogeneous environmental conditions, making it difficult to distinguish primary molecular effects from secondary environmental influences. This Special Issue will focus specifically on nano–plant interactions investigated under controlled laboratory conditions, particularly in in vitro culture systems, which provide highly reproducible and mechanistically informative experimental platforms. Plant tissue cultures, cell suspensions, organ cultures, and micropropagation systems enable precise evaluation of nanoparticle-induced molecular responses, including transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, and epigenetic modifications.
For this proposed Special Issue, we welcome the submission of original research articles and reviews addressing, among others, the following: molecular mechanisms of nanoparticle uptake and transport in plant tissues; nanoparticle-induced modulation of gene expression and signaling pathways; oxidative stress responses and antioxidant systems; effects on morphogenesis, organogenesis, and somatic embryogenesis in vitro; nanoparticles as elicitors of secondary metabolites; applications in plant biotechnology, micropropagation, and stress tolerance; safety assessment and nanotoxicological aspects in controlled systems. Given the strong molecular focus and interdisciplinary relevance of this topic, I believe it aligns very well with the scope of IJMS. The rapid expansion of nanotechnology in agriculture and plant biotechnology further underlines the timeliness of such a Special Issue. I am an academic researcher specializing in plant biotechnology and in vitro systems, with extensive experience in studying nano–plant interactions and their physiological and molecular consequences. I am honored to serve as Guest Editor for this Special Issue and to contribute to attracting high-quality submissions from leading research groups working in this field.
