Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Advanced composite materials (ACMs) with a cross-scale ranging from the molecular level to the macro level have emerged as a cornerstone of the vast modern material system. Over the past decade, major breakthroughs for ACM have been achieved in terms of their molecular design, characterization techniques, and practical applications, with their use having already enabled significant advancements in the fields of aerospace engineering, automotive industries, energy management, biomedicine, and sustainable infrastructures. These achievements have expanded the possibilities of traditional composites—from multi-functional nanocomposites to intelligent composite systems. Despite such encouraging progress, several formidable challenges persist, particularly regarding molecular design, scalable manufacturing, long-term durability, and environmental sustainability.
With a focus on molecular sciences, this Special Issue aims to consolidate the latest research on the molecular design, advanced manufacturing techniques, characterization methods, and broad applications of ACM. It is our hope that this Special Issue will serve as a platform for related researchers all over the world to share transformative insights, novel methodologies, and impactful case studies. We welcome the submission of original research articles and reviews that address both fundamental scientific questions and practical engineering challenges, with a special focus on interdisciplinary innovation.
The research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Bionic method;
- Molecular design;
- Scalable synthesis process;
- Cross-scale characterization techniques;
- Multi-functional nanocomposites;
- Sustainable biomaterials;
- Modeling analysis for composites;
- Proof-of-concept of novel composites.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
