Bringing New Molecular Insights into Neurodegenerative Diseases
This special issue belongs to the section "Molecular Neurobiology".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Neurodegenerative diseases remain a major challenge in neuroscience research, as the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying their onset and progression are still only partially understood. Advances in molecular biology, neuroimaging, artificial intelligence (AI), genetics, and multi-omics are now offering unprecedented opportunities to investigate the pathogenic brain mechanisms driving neurodegeneration.
We are pleased to invite you to submit your work to the Special Issue “Bringing New Molecular Insights into Neurodegenerative Diseases”, which aims to collect high-quality original research articles and reviews that advance the understanding of neurodegenerative disorders.
We want to highlight innovative molecular findings and interdisciplinary approaches that can advance disease prediction, early diagnosis, biomarker development, patient stratification, and the identification of novel therapeutic targets. Interdisciplinary contributions that combine molecular data with imaging or AI-based analytical frameworks are particularly encouraged.
Original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Molecular and cellular pathways implicated in neurodegeneration;
-
Mechanisms of protein misfolding, aggregation, and clearance;
-
Neuroinflammatory, synaptic, and immune-related processes;
-
Genetic, epigenetic, genomic and multi-omics studies;
-
Neuroimaging biomarkers and molecular imaging correlates;
-
AI-driven approaches for disease diagnosis/prediction, biomarker discovery, and image analysis;
-
Computational modeling and integrative bioinformatic pipelines;
-
Experimental models unveiling pathogenic brain mechanisms;
-
Neuroprotective pathways and emerging therapeutic targets.
Contributions addressing cognitive impairment in neurodegenerative diseases and its molecular, biological, and systems-level correlates are also strongly encouraged.
I would be delighted to consider your work for inclusion in this Special Issue and hope you will join us in contributing to this stimulating collection.
I look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
