Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Neuroinflammation is a highly dynamic, evolutionarily conserved immune response that arises within both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It plays a pivotal role not only in classical neuroimmune disorders, such as multiple sclerosis, but also in conditions not traditionally viewed as inflammatory, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, frontotemporal dementia, traumatic brain injury, and various psychiatric and neuro-oncological disorders.

Neuroinflammatory processes arise through the coordinated activity of CNS-resident cells—microglia, astrocytes, neurons, oligodendrocytes, and neural progenitors—and infiltrating peripheral immune populations. Identifying the key molecular mediators, signaling networks, and receptor systems that govern these interactions is essential for defining actionable pharmacological targets. Advances in molecular profiling, drug discovery, and delivery systems now provide unprecedented opportunities to design neuropharmaceuticals capable of modulating neuroinflammatory cascades with greater specificity and reduced off-target effects.

This Special Issue of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences welcomes original research and reviews that deepen our mechanistic understanding of neuroinflammation and highlight emerging therapeutic targets, small molecules, biologics, gene-based approaches, bioactive natural compounds, nutraceutical approaches, and innovative drug-delivery strategies. Manuscripts focused on target validation, modulation, and translational neuropharmaceutical development are especially encouraged

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
