State-of-the-Art "Molecular Microbiology" in Italy
This special issue belongs to the section "Molecular Microbiology".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Molecular microbiology is undergoing rapid development, driven by advances in genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, structural biology, systems biology, and other high-resolution molecular approaches. Italian research groups have made important contributions across many areas of this field, including microbial genetics and physiology, antimicrobial resistance, host–pathogen interactions, microbial virulence, microbial biotechnology, and the molecular characterization of complex microbial communities.
This Special Issue, entitled “State-of-the-Art "Molecular Microbiology" in Italy,” aims to provide a contemporary overview of innovative molecular microbiology research conducted by Italian scientists and their international collaborators. We welcome the contribution of original research articles and authoritative reviews addressing the molecular mechanisms underlying microbial physiology, adaptation, pathogenicity, and interactions with hosts and the environment.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, microbial gene expression and regulation, antimicrobial resistance and tolerance, virulence factors, host–microbe interactions, horizontal gene transfer, bacteriophages and viruses, microbial signaling, biofilm biology, microbial genomics and multi-omics, systems and synthetic biology, and molecular approaches to microbial biotechnology. By bringing together contributions from different areas of molecular microbiology, this Special Issue will highlight the breadth and scientific impact of current Italian research while fostering new interdisciplinary and international collaborations.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
