Drug Toxicity and Its Impact on Disease Therapies
This special issue belongs to the section "Molecular Pharmacology".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Adverse drug effects are an inevitable part of disease treatment. The basic approach in drug therapy is that the benefit of using drugs is greater than the risk that the drug poses to the patient. Therefore, knowledge of adverse drug reactions, their mechanisms of occurrence and potential consequences for the treatment itself are crucial for the success of drug treatment. With the emergence of biotechnological drugs, the challenge of determining the benefit-to-risk ratio of their use becomes even more difficult due to the lack of suitable test models for determining toxicity.
In this Special Issue, we aim to highlight current research trends and current knowledge in the field of drug toxicity for treatment success, from drug development to their use in the treatment of disease. We welcome full papers, short communications and review articles addressing areas including (but not limited to) the following:
- Using computational methods and machine learning to improve toxicity prediction
- Impact of genophenotypic factors and pharmacogenomics on adverse drug reactions
- Non-clinical experimental models for predicting drug toxicity
- The molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying drug toxicity
- Toxicity associated with monoclonal antibodies and advanced therapy medicinal products (cell-based therapy, gene therapy, tissue engineering)
- Organ toxicity (i.e., hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity)
- Treatment-related adverse reactions in polypharmacy
- Drug-induced toxicity in chronic therapies

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
