Advances in Macromolecular Drug Design and Research
This special issue belongs to the section "Molecular Pharmacology".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Macromolecular drug design has become a central focus in modern pharmaceutical and biomedical research, offering advanced therapeutic solutions beyond conventional small-molecule drugs. Macromolecular systems—including polymers, peptides, proteins, antibodies, nucleic acids, and nanoengineered carriers—enable improved target specificity, enhanced pharmacokinetics, controlled release, and reduced systemic toxicity.
Recent progress in synthetic chemistry, biomaterials science, molecular engineering, and nanotechnology has significantly expanded the scope of macromolecular therapeutics. However, challenges related to stability, biocompatibility, scalability, and clinical translation remain critical research priorities.
The aim of this Special Issue is to present high-quality original research and review articles addressing the design, synthesis, functionalization, characterization, and biological evaluation of macromolecular drug systems. Contributions covering both fundamental mechanistic insights and translational applications are welcome. The Special Issue’s scope aligns with pharmaceutical sciences, medicinal chemistry, drug delivery, and biomaterials research.
The submission of original research articles, reviews, and communications is encouraged in areas including (but not limited to) the following:
- Polymer–drug conjugates and polymer therapeutics
- Peptide and protein therapeutics
- Antibody–drug conjugates and biologics
- Nucleic acid-based therapeutics
- Nanocarriers and targeted delivery systems
- Stimuli-responsive drug delivery platforms
- Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of macromolecular drugs
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
