Comparative and Functional Genomics of Plants
This special issue belongs to the section "Molecular Genetics and Genomics".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Genomic studies in plants have transformed our understanding of the genetic basis of plant evolution, adaptation, and trait variation. Comparative genomics enables the understanding of genome evolution, structural variation, gene family expansion, synteny, and the conservation or divergence of regulatory networks across species, while functional genomics bridges genotype and phenotype by characterizing gene function. The combination of multi-omics technologies with computational biology, machine learning, and systems biology has greatly enhanced our ability to identify candidate genes, regulatory elements, and molecular pathways governing agronomically important traits such as yield, stress tolerance, disease resistance, nutrient use efficiency, and developmental processes.
This Research Topic aims to highlight recent advances in both comparative and functional plant genomics across model and non-model crop species. We welcome original research, reviews, and methodological papers addressing genome assembly and annotation, pan-genomics, evolutionary genomics, transcriptome (whole RNA, single-cell and spatial) analysis, metabolomics, proteomics, epigenetic regulation, gene regulatory networks, CRISPR-based functional validation, and integrative multi-omics approaches. By bringing together diverse genomic perspectives, this collection seeks to advance our understanding of plant biology and promote innovative strategies for developing resilient and high-performing crops in a changing global environment.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
