Dear Colleagues,
The complex interplay between pathogens and the host immune system remains one of the most dynamic frontiers in biomedical research. Recent global health challenges have underscored the necessity of understanding how diverse infectious agents—ranging from multidrug-resistant bacteria to emerging neurotropic viruses—manipulate or evade host defenses. As we uncover new molecular pathways and cellular interactions, it becomes clear that the systemic impact of infection extends far beyond the initial site of entry, often triggering profound inflammatory responses that influence long-term health outcomes.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for the latest breakthroughs in immune-pathogen dynamics. We invite original research and review articles that explore the mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity across a broad spectrum of disciplines, including microbiology, virology, and neurology. We are particularly interested in updates on:
Novel immune signaling pathways in bacterial and viral pathogenesis.
Neuro-immunological responses to central nervous system infections.
The role of the microbiome in modulating systemic immunity.
Innovative therapeutic strategies and vaccine development.
Clinical and pathological aspects of pathogen–host relationships.
By bridging the gap between basic science and clinical insights, this collection seeks to highlight the multi-organ impact of infectious diseases and the evolving landscape of immunological defense.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
