Classical and AI Computational Fluid Dynamics: Research and Applications to Science and Engineering
This special issue belongs to the section "Mathematical and Computational Fluid Mechanics".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The study of the flow of fluids is fundamental for understanding a large range of natural phenomena, engineering systems, and modern technologies. Examples range from most astrophysical systems, like the whole universe, galaxies, and stars, to understanding the weather, ocean currents, and tides; blood circulation; aircraft and automobiles; pipelines; water distribution systems; dispersion of contaminants in water, air, and soil, and so on. Understanding fluid flow is fundamental for medical applications, the environment, industry in general, and most energy systems. Numerical methods for fluid flow solve the governing equations of fluid dynamics, which are the foundation of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The main numerical methods for fluid flow are the finite difference method (FDM), the finite volume method (FVM), the finite element method (FEM), the spectral method, the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), and the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method (SPH). Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has been reshaping CFD by reducing computational costs, accelerating simulations, and learning the behavior of fluids from data. Topics of interest for this Special Issue include numerical simulations of fluid flow using the different methods we have mentioned above and applied to basic science and engineering. We encourage, in particular, submitting papers that use AI techniques and methods.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Fluids is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
