Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The change from current world economy, based on the linear production model to the circular economy model, is a challenge adressed to new generations, meeting planet sustainability issues. Fossil fuels dependence must be reduced worldwide, and an increase in renewable resources exploitation is desired in order to obtain a cyclical material and energy flow model. Research to find specific technologies and processes for adding value to agro-forest and industrial wastes by bioethanol production are essential and will boost new industrial aplications and innovations. Bioethanol from renewable resources, namely from residual biomass, can be applied as biofuel, or as platform molecules for chemicals and biomaterials, and its production in integrated biorefineries could improve valorization and simultaneously reduce CO2 emissions.

This Special Issue “Adding value to agro-forest and industrial wastes by bioethanol production” will focus on different feedstocks, on pretreatments and hidrolyses for releasing simple sugars, if needed, on different applied microorganisms and on different configurations for ethanol fermentation processes.
