Rheumatology and Immunology: Advances in Diagnosis and Management
This special issue belongs to the section "Clinical Diagnosis and Prognosis".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Introduction
The landscape of rheumatology and clinical immunology is evolving at an unprecedented pace. The transition from broad immunosuppression to targeted immunomodulation has fundamentally changed the prognosis for patients with systemic autoimmune diseases. However, despite these successes, challenges remain in early diagnosis, predicting treatment responses and managing the increasing complexity of multi-system involvement in rheumatic diseases.
Aim of the Special Issue
This Special Issue aims to address the critical need for modernized diagnostic frameworks and the optimization of therapeutic management across the spectrum of rheumatological and immunological disorders. This subject relates directly to the journal's scope of advancing medical knowledge through high-quality, peer-reviewed clinical and translational research. We seek to provide a platform for studies that not only explore the pathophysiology of disease but also offer practical, evidence-based solutions for clinical challenges, ensuring the content remains relevant to both researchers and practitioners.
Suggested Themes and Article Types
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Precision Medicine: Personalizing treatment using genomic, proteomic, and metabolomic profiling.
- Novel Diagnostic Tools: Breakthroughs in musculoskeletal ultrasound, MRI techniques, and point-of-care biomarker testing.
- Advanced Therapeutics: Clinical efficacy and safety of new biological agents, small molecules, and biosimilars.
- Systemic Involvement: Management of extra-articular manifestations in conditions like Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Scleroderma, and Vasculitis.
- Pathogenesis and Mechanisms: New insights into T-cell/B-cell interactions and the role of the innate immune system in chronic inflammation.
I look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
