Advancing Precision Cardiovascular Imaging: From Metabolic Disorders to Cardiomyopathies and Rare Cardiac Diseases
This special issue belongs to the section "Medical Imaging and Theranostics".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cardiovascular medicine is experiencing a paradigm shift driven by advanced non-invasive imaging, allowing for earlier detection, precise phenotyping and the personalized management of complex myocardial pathologies. Modern non-invasive imaging modalities have transformed our approach to these complex conditions, moving beyond structural assessment to provide deep insights into tissue characterization, metabolic dysfunction and microvascular hemodynamics. This Special Issue focuses on the rapidly evolving landscape of cardiovascular imaging and its pivotal role in diagnosing, phenotyping and managing cardiometabolic disorders, cardiomyopathies and rare cardiac diseases.
While common metabolic conditions like diabetic cardiomyopathy and obesity-related heart disease pose widespread clinical challenges, rare diseases—such as cardiac amyloidosis, sarcoidosis and Anderson–Fabry disease—frequently suffer from diagnostic delays. Advanced imaging techniques are critical in bridging this gap. We invite original research, comprehensive reviews and innovative case series that demonstrate the clinical utility, diagnostic accuracy and prognostic value of cutting-edge modalities. This includes tissue characterization via cardiac MRI, metabolic and inflammatory insights from nuclear imaging (PET/SPECT), structural and strain metrics from echocardiography, and high-resolution plaque and anatomical assessment via computed tomography (CT). By highlighting novel imaging biomarkers, artificial intelligence applications and comparative multi-modality approaches, this issue aims to provide clinicians and researchers with an updated, evidence-based framework to improve diagnostic precision and patient outcomes in both rare and metabolic cardiac conditions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
