Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

You are invited to contribute to this Special Issue focused on thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), which are essential for various applications across various industries, including aerospace, energy, and manufacturing. The demand for advanced coatings that provide superior thermal insulation, protection against oxidation, and enhanced durability is growing rapidly. Despite significant progress, challenges in optimizing thermal conductivity, resistance to environmental degradation, and long-term stability remain key research areas.

This Special Issue aims to showcase the latest advancements in TBC technology, including novel materials, innovative deposition techniques, and strategies for improving coating performance. We welcome your contributions on, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Development of advanced thermal protective coatings;
  • Ceramic and composite materials for coatings;
  • Innovative deposition and fabrication techniques;
  • Oxidation, corrosion, and wear resistance;
  • Optimization of thermal conductivity;
  • Durability, failure mechanisms, and coating longevity;
  • Coating performance in diverse environments;
  • Applications in aerospace, energy, and manufacturing;
  • Surface engineering and adhesion of coatings;
  • Computational modelling and simulation of coating behaviour.

By combining cutting-edge research, this Special Issue will address the current challenges in coating technology and explore prospects for improving thermal protection across various applications. We look forward to your contributions and hope to foster engaging discussions on advancing TBC technology and its applications.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Keywords

  • high-temperature coatings
  • thermal insulation layers
