The Global Need for Effective Antibiotics
A section of Antibiotics (ISSN 2079-6382).
Section Information
The emerging problem of antimicrobial resistance poses a serious threat to public health around the world. Furthermore, this situation is exacerbated by the significant decline in antimicrobial research and development. Very few new classes of antimicrobials enter the market as older classes lose their effectiveness. Going forward, the goal is to meet the challenge of developing new therapies and to maintain the effectiveness of existing therapies to meet the future need for effective antibiotics.
