Dear Colleagues,
Integrated production systems in the tropics encompass a range of conservation-oriented land-use practices, such as crop–livestock–forestry integration, agroforestry, no-tillage, crop rotation, and other sustainable soil management practices. Historically, these systems have been replacing conventional agriculture, which often relies on intensive exploitation of natural resources, resulting in soil degradation, nutrient depletion, loss of soil organic matter, and reduced soil quality.
In this context, over the past 20 years, conservation-oriented land-use systems have gained increasing momentum and ecological relevance, evolving into important strategies for improving soil health and promoting sustainable agricultural development in tropical ecosystems. These approaches emphasize the maintenance of soil fertility, nutrient cycling, soil carbon dynamics, water retention capacity, and biological processes that support crop productivity and ecosystem sustainability. Therefore, integrated soil management has become a fundamental strategy for balancing agricultural production with environmental conservation.
This Special Issue aims to bring together high-quality research on the theme “Integrated Soil Management for Sustainable Tropical Agriculture” that advances knowledge in sustainable soil management and agricultural practices in tropical ecosystems. In particular, we welcome studies addressing soil fertility management, nutrient dynamics and cycling, soil–plant interactions, conservation agriculture, and integrated approaches for improving soil functions and crop productivity under tropical conditions.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
