Strategic Approaches towards Rangelands Health and Sustainable Production
This special issue belongs to the section "Grassland and Pasture Science".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Rangeland health, and development towards healthy(ier), sustainable and productive rangelands is imperative in these times of climate change and economic development, especially since the demand for livestock products is projected to increase 70-100% until 2050 (from 2015). Large proportions of this increase will be in China and developing countries with high population increase, mainly in rapidly increasing middle-income segments of the population. Consequently, there are great challenges to rangeland health and sustainability, but also more productive opportunities for actors in the livestock sector to develop healthy(ier) and productive management systems for rangelands, including its value chains and ecosystem services.
Much knowledge is missing for the development of healthy(ier) rangelands, and new and innovative research is needed. Rangelands exist in different biophysical and socio-economic contexts in different regions and countries. Hence, in this Special Issue, we look forward to contributions from many disciplines, and especially multi- or inter-disciplinary research, from around the globe.
