Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Tropical botanical resources—including food crops, medicinal plants, industrial crops and bioenergy species—have long supported livelihoods, biodiversity conservation and regional economies in tropical and subtropical regions. Historically, their cultivation has relied on traditional knowledge and low-input systems. Over time, scientific agronomy, plant breeding and agroecology have enhanced productivity, resilience and sustainability. With increasing pressures from climate change, land degradation and food insecurity, advancing the systematic cultivation and utilization of tropical plant resources has become a global priority.

This Special Issue aligns with the cross-disciplinary mission of Agronomy, which promotes comprehensive experimental and theoretical research in agronomy and agroecology

The Special Issue aims to showcase innovations in crop physiology, breeding, biotechnology, digital agriculture, soil health, water management and sustainability as they relate to tropical botanical resources. The scope includes the conservation and use of genetic resources, precision phenotyping, machine-learning applications, regenerative farming and climate-smart agronomic practices

Emphasis is placed on detailed methodologies and practical applications that enhance productivity, resilience and ecosystem services.

Emerging research integrates biotechnology for crop improvement, precision agriculture tools, digital monitoring systems and sustainable soil and water management strategies

The Special Issue will focus on advances in genetic resource conservation, climate-adaptive breeding and data-driven crop management that are transforming tropical agronomy toward more resilient, resource-efficient and environmentally sustainable production systems. Furthermore, manuscripts regarding research proposals and research ideas will be particularly welcomed.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
