Application of Beneficial Microorganisms in Improving Crop Yield and Agroecosystem Resilience
This special issue belongs to the section "Agroecology Innovation: Achieving System Resilience".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Global agriculture is increasingly challenged by the need to sustainably enhance crop productivity while maintaining ecosystem health. Climate change, soil degradation, pest resistance, and the intensification of agricultural practices are threatening the resilience of agroecosystems and the stability of food production worldwide. In this context, beneficial microorganisms, including plant growth-promoting bacteria, fungi, and microbial consortia, have emerged as key tools to support crop yield, improve nutrient use efficiency, and enhance resilience against biotic and abiotic stresses.
This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge on the role of beneficial microorganisms in agroecosystems. Contributions may include, but are not limited to, the exploration of microbial inoculants and/or microbiomes for crop growth enhancement, interactions between plants and microbiomes, biocontrol of pathogens and pests, improvement of soil health and fertility, and strategies for integrating microbial solutions into sustainable agricultural practices. Emphasis is also placed on understanding the mechanisms through which microorganisms contribute to agroecosystem resilience and on innovative approaches for translating microbial research into practical applications in the field.
By collecting cutting-edge research and perspectives in this area, this Special Issue pursues to advance our understanding of how beneficial microorganisms can contribute to more productive, resilient, and sustainable agricultural systems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
