Cover Story: This study applied principal component analysis (PCA) and regression modeling to predict the weight, fuel characteristics, and biodegradability of hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) products, while improving prediction accuracy for solid residue (SR) and heavy bio-oil (HBO). PCA revealed an association between SR and aqueous phase (AP) weights, enabling AP weight estimation via predicted SR values. The fuel characteristics of SR and HBO were predicted with higher accuracy. Catechol concentration in HTL wastewater was modeled from operating conditions and linked to the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC₅₀) of R. jostii and A. niger as a biodegradability index. This work demonstrates the feasibility of predicting underrepresented HTL outputs using statistical approaches. View this paper
