Cover Story: The paper studies the evolving measles and rubella situation across the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, highlighting progress towards elimination and epidemiological challenges. It brings together recent surveillance and immunization data to describe changes in transmission, identify persistent immunity and surveillance gaps, and assess factors influencing progress. While several countries have made substantial gains, ongoing transmission and recent shifts in measles epidemiology underscore the need to close immunity gaps, strengthen surveillance and sustain high-quality immunization programmes. The findings provide an updated regional evidence base to inform national and regional strategies and reinforce the need for accelerated action to achieve measles and rubella elimination.
