Cover Story: Enteric greenhouse gas emissions, particularly methane, pose a significant challenge to sustainable livestock production. Onion peel (OP), a byproduct rich in bioactive compounds, has shown promise as a natural additive for methane mitigation. This study explores the effects of varying amounts of OP (2.5–10%) on the in vitro fermentation of high-concentrate (HC) and high-forage (HF) diets. We assessed gas production, methane and other gaseous emissions, and nutrient degradability to identify the optimal amount of OP for reducing methane output while supporting rumen fermentation.
