Cover Story: Convolutional neural network is a type of deep neural network used for many visual recognition tasks. These tasks are found on many edge devices whose recognition accuracy can be improved by adopting these neural networks. Therefore, it is important that edge computing platforms support the inference of convolutional neural networks within their limited computational and energy consumption constraints. Reconfigurable computing devices are being used for the inference on edge due to their hardware flexibility, which allows the target computing platform to be adapted to the convolutional neural network model, achieving high performance and energy efficiency. This paper surveys the reconfigurable computing architectures available for running convolutional neural networks on edge devices. View this paper
