Cover Story: Spring-loaded double cantilever tests were performed, and the test results (load–displacement curves) were obtained. The bonded aluminum alloy plates were held open by a spring and immersed in hot water to investigate the long-term durability of adhesive joints, especially to water and temperature. Based on the load–displacement results, the creep crack growth rate, fracture toughness, and crack length were calculated, and degradation due to hot water was evaluated. Although the test method was proposed in 1988, it has not been used to date. Therefore, we refocused on this test method, verified its effectiveness by changing the spring constant and initial loading conditions, and investigated the effect of surface treatment and immersion temperature on the creep crack growth.
