Cover Story: Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is important reaction for energy conversion. Metal-free carbon-based catalysts can be utilized for OER catalysts. However, it is important to prove the OER catalytic activity of carbon materials considering the intrinsic stability of the carbon catalyst under highly oxidative condition. Here, we studied high oxygen evolution reaction catalytic activity of F-doped carbon in alkaline media. Intrinsic OER activity was evaluated from the combination of measurements using rotating disk electrode and O2 sensor. The F-doped carbon catalyst is highly active catalyst comparable to the state-of-the-art precious metal-based catalyst such as RuO2. View this paper.
