Dear Colleagues,
With the accelerating global drive toward carbon neutrality and the rapid advancement of renewable energy technologies, (photo)electrocatalysis has become a pivotal bridge connecting energy conversion and storage, underpinning the development of sustainable energy systems. (Photo)electrocatalysts play a decisive role in a wide range of energy conversion and storage devices, including fuel cells, metal–air batteries, solar cells, electrolyzers, and other advanced energy systems, directly determining the efficiency, cost, and stability of these technologies.
This Special Issue, entitled “Advances in (Photo)electrocatalysts for Energy Conversion and Storage”, is dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge research across the entire (photo)electrocatalyst research chain for energy conversion and storage, covering rational material design, innovative synthetic strategies, mechanistic elucidation, device integration, and practical application. We particularly welcome high-quality contributions focusing on the development of novel (photo)electrocatalysts and their systematic optimization in energy conversion and storage systems.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Novel synthesis strategies for (photo)electrocatalysts, including green, scalable, and low-cost approaches.
- Precise modulation of catalytic active sites in catalysts.
- Advanced in situ and operando characterization techniques for unraveling (photo)electrocatalyst reaction mechanisms at the atomic/molecular level.
- Mechanistic and kinetic studies of (photo)electrocatalysts (e.g., density functional theory (DFT) theoretical simulations, and optimization of intermediate adsorption energies).
- Integration of (photo)electrocatalysts into practical energy conversion and storage devices (e.g., fuel cells, metal–air batteries, solar cells, electrolyzers) and performance evaluation under real operating conditions.
- Long-term durability enhancement and regeneration strategies for (photo)electrocatalysts.
- Scalable and low-cost fabrication technologies of (photo)electrocatalysts for industrial application.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
