Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue explores how to make machining and manufacturing more sustainable by focusing on process optimization and green technologies. Optimizing processes involves minimizing waste, energy consumption, and environmental impact, and using recycled materials to a greener manufacturing approach. Sustainability in machining can be achieved by promoting environmental friendly practices such as dry machining, Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL), cryogenic cooling, and biodegradable or vegetable-based cutting fluids, etc. Combining two or more of these techniques can further enhance sustainability. The manufacturing sector is moving towards more sustainable practices, hence the growing interest in sustainability assessment., and the sustainability index is a tool that helps measure the sustainability of manufacturing process considering their environmental, economic, and social impacts.

Technologies continue to shape the future of sustainable manufacturing. Industry 4.0 technologies such as Industrial IoT, Big Data analytics, AI and ML, digital twins, robotics and automation, and Additive Manufacturing promote sustainable and cost-effective manufacturing practices.

This Special Issue, “Towards Sustainable Machining and Manufacturing: Process Optimization and Green Technologies”, seeks high-quality works focusing on sustainable machining and manufacturing, process optimization and green technologies. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Sustainable machining
  • Sustainable manufacturing
  • Hybrid manufacturing processes
  • High-speed machining
  • Surface Integrity
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Industry 4.0
  • Additive manufacturing
  • Sustainability assessment

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
